In compliance with regulations, the CCI of Bayonne, the Basque Country had an Asbestos Technical Review (ATR) drawn up by an approved laboratory for all its buildings for which building permission was granted before 1st July 1997.
The ATR includes:
- Localisation of materials containing asbestos that are accessible without destruction,
- A record of the condition of these materials,
- A record of the work carried out to remove and confine these materials and precautionary measures taken,
- Safety instructions
- A summary report.
Following the analysis of the conclusions made in these ATRs on the state of any materials containing asbestos, the CCI undertook work to remove these materials from the port buildings managed by them:
- April 2007: replacement of the roof and an awning of the building occupied by SAREM,
- November 2007: replacement of the roof of buildings next to the drydock (Blancpignon zone),
- December 2007 – January 2008: replacement of the roof and cladding on a warehouse situated in the Chemin St Bernard,
- July – August 2008: replacement of the roof of the building occupied by the Association Atherbea.
All this work was carried out by companies authorised to work on asbestos. Waste was transported to approved asbestos storage sites and was duly recorded on asbestos waste forms.
