At the end of 2005, workshops in each port zone (Tarnos, St Bernard and Blancpignon) were equipped with permanent collection containers for waste sorting and each workshop was given:
- a container for aerosols
- a container for dirty waste (essentially rags)
- a container for non-dirty sundry waste
- a skip for metal waste
- a box for batteries
This waste is then transported to a transit platform (Cetraid in Anglet).
The dirty waste and aerosols are temporarily stored on a site belonging to France Déchets Services (in Montardon) before being sent to incineration plants. In compliance with regulations, forms to monitor and trace the waste to its final destination are duly filled in. These forms are recorded in a computer file for dangerous waste.
PAPER AND CARDBOARD
In 2006, initiatives to increase sorting were continued at the Port. Despite the low quantities, paper and cardboard waste is sorted. This category of waste is easily recycled and a service provider in this field is close at hand (Redmat), so it was decided to equip the offices and Tarnos workshop with closed containers for paper and cardboard sorting.
