Triple Quality – Safety – Environment Certification
This is an original and innovative programme since the Port of Bayonne has undertaken the implementation of an integrated management system resulting in three certifications: the ISO 9001 for quality management, OHSAS 18001 for Occupational Health and Safety and ISO 14001 for environment management systems. For Bayonne, the objective is obviously the improvement of client service, the safety of port personnel and respect of the environment through the adaptation and optimisation of its facilities. Work, begun in 2003, was completed in 2006 and enabled the Port of Bayonne to become the first French port to receive the triple QSE certification.
Our policy for 2009
Quality standards certified since 2006, Quality Management (ISO 9001) for the Port and Equipment Department and Quality Management (ISO 9001), Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS 18001) and Environment Management (ISO 14001) for the Port of Bayonne, the CCI of Bayonne, the Basque Country has strengthened its commitment and has listed its priorities as:
-
active cooperation with the port community,
-
safety for both people and goods,
-
respect for the environment
-
commitment to sustainable development processes.
In order to achieve this, we have made a commitment to:
-
Take into account and satisfy the requirements of our clients and interested parties in respecting the legal and regulatory obligations, as well as our contractual commitments
-
Train all of our staff and associates to adopt a responsible attitude in relation to the environment and safety
-
Maintain a regulatory watch in order that legislation and regulations are complied with
-
Ensure the application of a prevention policy through the definition and implementation of a QSE action plan
-
Check the awareness and implementation of this quality, safety and environmental management policy within the scope of our activities
-
Associate our partners in the search of actions to be undertaken in order to reach the objectives of our QSE policy
-
Continually improve our results in terms of quality, safety and environment and periodically measure our performance in relation to our objectives
In order to ensure that these commitments are respected, we have set up an integrated quality – safety – environment management system.
For 2009, our priority actions are mainly the following:
-
Improvement of quayside waste management by offering waste sorting solutions in different port zones
-
Continuation of actions to prevent potential water pollution especially by offering preventive sweeping solutions for the quays or again by installing adapted equipment.
-
Obtain facilities and equipment that meet the requirements of port developments and the expectations of the Regional Council of Aquitaine and port users while respecting the principles of prevention and environment protection.
Achieving all these commitments / actions requires the involvement of all the partners.
The executive management department of the CCI undertakes to implement all the means necessary to carry this policy through. Coordination of all these actions has been entrusted to Carine PLAGNOT, who will regularly report on the state of progress.
